There is uncertainty surrounding the investment opportunities provided by Amazon.com, which is a favourable development.
After introducing its so-called cloud computing service five years ago, the largest online retailer is now reaping the benefits of what has developed into a one-of-a-kind window into the world of technology startup companies.
Yieldex, Sonian, Engine Yard, and Animoto are the names of at least four of the startups that have received financial backing from Amazon.com, Inc. thus far.
Amazon.com is investing additional funds in the fledgling company Engine Yard, which provides assistance to software engineers working with the free and open-source Ruby on Rails web application framework.
Amazon, which was one of Engine Yard’s early backers, recently became a member of a group of investors that provided the company with an additional funding injection of $19 million.
The company Engine Yard, based in San Francisco, now has total funding of more than $37 million thanks to the latest investment. The business announced that it planned to put the funds toward the creation of enterprise-level services as well as the development of new open-source projects. Engine Yard maintains a close working relationship with Amazon Web Services, the cloud-computing division of Amazon.
The funding came from New Enterprise Associates and Amazon.com. Benchmark Capital, which had been an investor in the company in the past, took part in the funding round.
Ruby on Rails is an open-source software framework, and Engine Yard, a company based in San Francisco that has been in business for just two years, manages deployment and operations for developers working in the Web development environment of Ruby on Rails. It provides assistance to software developers in the delivery of application services using the so-called cloud computing model or through the utilisation of third-party data centres.
Despite the fact that Amazon has invested in Engine Yard, the company is not currently utilizing the online retailer’s Web services offering. On the other hand, it has future plans to do so.
